The NFL being scripted has been joked about for a long time now. I think it's time we dive into the claims to see if there is any weight to them.

Missed Calls
This is the claim that reignites the "NFL Script Debate" every season. Every year obvious calls get missed. Recently in the week 13 of the 2023-2024 season, there was a play that should've been called pass-interference in the Packers-Chiefs game. Now in all fairness, one play does not make up for a whole game of mistakes from the players. But when critical calls are missed, it brings up an argument.
Quarterback Favoritism
There are quarterbacks in the league who get protected by the refs more than others. That is just a fact of the game. The last couple seasons, the Quarterback the refs have protected has been Patrick Mahomes. This is because Patrick Mahomes is the most valuable player on the field, in a very literal sense. Mahomes is a relatively young player, who has won multiple Super Bowl rings in his 7 years with in the league.
Storylines
It's no secert that each NFL team has a story associated with their goal towards making the ever covetted Super Bowl. For instace, my Minnesota Vikings had a veteran QB who was playing at the top of his game since a recent Netflix Special. However Kirk Cousins tore his Achlilles, now the fate of Minnesota rests in the hands of career journeyman, Joshua Dobbs who has been on 7 teams since 2017, and the rookie fresh out of BYU, Jaren Hall.
The Philedphia Eagles' story revolves around a team who lost the Super Bowl last year. The lost against the chiefs during the last Super Bowl, now they are coming back with a venegance and a new defence shattering play. The new play has fans around the league calling for a ban on the play known by a few names, "The Tush Push" or "The Brotherly Shove". This play is basically impossible to stop, the QB Jalen Hurts launches himself over the Center Lineman Jason Kelce.
Speaking of the Kelce's, the biggest storyline in the NFL has to do with Jason Kelce's brother, Travis Kelce. Travis Kelce is currently dating pop sensation Taylor Swift. The offical couple name for them is #Traylor.
According to the statistics, Kelce plays significantly better when Swift is in attendance. USA Today says "When Swift is in attendance for a Chiefs game, Kansas City is 4-1 while Kelce has 38 catches for 513 yards (102.6 yards per game) and two touchdowns."
THE POINT
Do I think the NFL is scripted? In my honest opinion, there's not way the NFL could be entirely scripted. Now is the NFL completly fair? No. The NFL at the end of a day is a buiness. Those in charge, are going to do whatever gets the most viewers.
Feel free to check out my youtube video on the subject to get more of my opinions.

As a completely unbiased bystander I personally see no reason to ban the Brotherly Shove. In all seriousness the missed calls have been egregious this season, especially in favor of the Eagles. I think people are very good at drawing conclusions based on their bias. Two fans of opposing teams can watch the exact same play and say completely different things on what the penalty should be. As soon as fans notice a pattern they will run with it.
