In Star Wars, there are two main ideologies. The Jedi and The Sith. In this blog post, I aim to educate my readers on the beliefs of these two force-wielding fictional religions.

In the video game "Knights of the Old Republic" two codes are presented. I am going to start each section by showing the codes. Both codes are poetic in nature. I feel like the creators of the game did this to give identity to each of these ways of thought.

The Jedi Code

ree

There is no emotion, there is peace.

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.

There is no passion, there is serenity.

There is no chaos, there is harmony.

There is no death, there is the Force.

The Jedi order believed because everything is as the Force wills it, the Jedi are supposed to serve solely the Force. The Jedi of old would rather forsake emotion entirely than allow for the possibility of letting negative emotions take over.

An example of the Jedi's detachment comes in Revenge of the Sith, Anakin Skywalker goes to Master Yoda with concerns about his fear of loss. Rather than working with Anakin's fear, Yoda simply tells Anakin he needs to let go.

The Sith Code

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.

Through passion, I gain strength.

Through strength, I gain power.

Through power, I gain victory.

Through victory, my chains are broken.

The Force shall free me.

The code of The Sith is naturally completely opposite of the Jedi. Rather than total submission to the will of the force- the Sith bend the Force to their desires. The Sith acted out of ambition. In order to rule, the Sith used the dark side to give them a quick road to their goals.

Luke trains under a much older and wiser Yoda during Empire strikes back. Luke asks Yoda if the Dark Side is stronger. Yoda responds by saying, "No, easier; More seductive." The Dark side allows for faster results, with the drawback that it isn't as powerful.

Real-World Application

The real world isn't black and white. We as people don't have to swear off emotional attachment. We don't have to continually feed our negative emotions. In Star Wars, the Jedi and the Sith are sworn enemies; In real life, we are constantly at war with how to handle our emotions. We as people can't simply swear off one side and expect to have no ramifications for our actions.

Gratitude Post #5- Close Friends

Growing up, I knew I would need friends who I could call at the drop of a hat. I knew that when the day came for my sister to pass on...
