If the title sounds dramatic, you are clearly not a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. So allow me to fill you in on the torment known as supporting the Vikings. In the class I'm writing this for, we have a lot of Taylor Swift fans.

So imagine Taylor Swift announces, her next tour. The last stop of her tour is at the local college football field. Word spreads like wildfire about how amazing this tour is. Taylor sings all of the best songs, she brings members of the audience on stage to sing with her, and literal angels come down from heaven to sing backup for her.
Well... The concert before the last show ends horribly. Taylor Swift falls off the stage, breaks her foot, and cancels the last show. That is the life of a Minnesota Vikings fan.
Here's a recap of the 2021-2022 season. Justin Jefferson makes one of the greatest catches in the sport. The team went 13-3. Kirk Cousins is throwing record-breaking numbers. The Vikings win the NFC North- and then lose to the Giants in the first round of the playoffs.

Because of the nature of the sport. Everything falls back onto the Quarterback, Kirk Cousins. In the recent Netflix documentary "Quarterback" Kirk quoted Margret Thatcher when talking about the hate he has received, the quote is "If my critics saw me walking on water, they would say it's because I can't swim."
The Minnesota Vikings were formed on January 28th, 1960. The Minnesota Vikings have appeared in the Super Bowl four times, (1970,1974,1975, 1977) and have lost each of those games. The sentiment among fans is "We want to win one Super Bowl before we die".

Hypothetically it will turn around at some point for the Vikings right? I remember feeling the same sense of agony as an Eagles fan, especially in the Chip Kelly coaching era. I legitimately stopped watching football for a while there because of that feeling of my team being good but never good enough. Ever since Jeffery Lurie became owner they were always good enough to compete with anyone but the Super Bowl really is all that matters in football. Thank goodness for the Vikings being an even worse off organization in terms of fortune so the Eagles could actually get their first.
Thank you for adding the Taylor Swift comparison at the start. That really helped put things in perspective for me since I know absolutely nothing (and I truly mean absolutely nothing) about football. I’ve only been to a few high school football games and was too short to see over the people in front of me.
